Beef exports increased

While the dairy herd stagnates, beef cattle has a renaissance in Hungary – agrarszektor.hu wrote. The wide range of subsidies, a market free of greater crisis and relatively low investment needs (compared to keeping dairy cows) is beneficial to this sector.

According to the European Commission’s figures, the community sold 103,000 tons of live cattle and beef on the international market in January-February 2018, 5 percent less than a year before. The largest markets were Turkey, Hong Kong and Israel. The import of live beef and beef imports increased by 15 percent to 57 thousand tonnes in the first two months of 2018, compared to the volume delivered in January-February 2017. 40 percent of the imports arrived from Brazil and 17 – 17 percent from Uruguay and Argentina.
