Question:
We have had another one of our food scandals recently, the “guar gum” affair. The issue of whether present regulations applicable to food safety and the present organisation are suitable for responding quickly and effectively to such situations or not has come into the focus again. My question for Dr. Miklós Süth, chief veterinarian is: How can the occurrence of such problems be prevented (if they can be prevented at all)? What in his opinion can be done by decent, law-abiding manufacturers and retailers to minimise their risks? Does he know of any changes in organisation or legislation being planned by the government in this area?
