METRO joined the global movement Earth Hour
Earth Hour — at 8.30 p.m. local time on Saturday, 28th March — offered a unique opportunity for all METRO stores to demand action to combat climate change by switching their lights for 60 minutes.
METRO has always been a keen supporter
of environmental issues, thus initiated a number of
environment-friendly campaigns in its stores all over the world. The
major objective of these technologies is based on less
energy-consumption and avoiding harmful materials in order to
decrease the greenhouse effect. The merchandsing retail chain in
Hungary uses covered freezers, an energy-saving lightning-system and
collects spoilage selectively. And there is more to come, the company
is determined to play an active role in protecting the environment.
„Earth Hour is a rather useful project to make consumers realize
how important it is to be more conscious about our environment, and
make people strive for environment-friendly solutions” – José
María Cervera, CEO of Metro Commercial Ltd. explained.
