A new pocket opens on the SZÉP card with the name Active Hungarians
Everyone is the architect of their own health, the Active Hungary program aims to make people experts in their own health – said the State Secretary for Active Hungary at the Prime Minister’s Office in Mezőkövesd on Wednesday.
In his presentation at the Active Hungary conference, Máriusz Révész spoke about the problems with the health of Hungarians. Their life expectancy is 4.6 years behind the EU average, they are third in the proportion of overweight people, while they are first in the European Union in the number of preventable deaths – he explained.
He highlighted that, according to a study by the World Health Organization, health is largely determined by lifestyle. In this regard, the government’s goal is for Hungarians to move more and live healthier lives – he said.
According to the State Secretary, there are two major areas of this: what people do to maintain their health on weekends and weekdays.
He stressed that “it was achieved through hard work” that after negotiations with the EU, Hungary could spend 65 billion forints on active tourism developments. The support had to be distributed among the counties in proportion to their population, area and financial situation.
Máriusz Révész said that cooperation is needed in active tourism, citing the establishment of the Rába Association as a good example, with which several results were achieved in one year. He added that regional strategies are also being prepared in the Active Hungary program in the interests of cooperation.
