Fruits of old times in the Fairy Garden
In the last 100 years 75 percent of plants grown in agriculture became extinct in the Carpathian Basin. The Fairy Garden programme aims at preserving fruit varieties indigenous to the Carpathian Basin. Fairy Garden was started by the ombudsman for future generations and the Ministry for Rural Development in 2011 and since then many organisations joined the initiative, planting characteristic fruit trees from various regions in their gardens. So far 27 church, kindergarten and school gardens and municipalities have planted each other’s saplings.
