Consumers have got over the shock
The Consumer Confidence Index has only shown a slight decrease of 3 points in September, compared to June, stopping at 149 points. Expectations regarding household income and the financial position of the country regarding the next 12 months both declined by 9 points compared to June. Indexes showing consumer expectations and purchasing desire both indicate that people feel they have less money to spend than a year ago. People feel slightly more optimistic about the future than they did in June, but in general, pessimism prevails. Two thirds of the people interviewed believed that their household purchasing power will decrease in the next 1-2 years.
