Almost 400 trucks, 9300 tons, and 5.2 billion HUF worth foods were saved by the Hungarian Food Bank Association last year, helping to more than 300,000 needy people.
In its statement sent to the MTI, they wrote that the volume of food surplus in Hungary is estimated at nearly 2 million tons. The association sees that 80-100 thousand tons of it could be saved.
While huge wastes are taking place around the globe today, more and more emphasis is given to the saving of surpluses – they highlighted.
The two main goals of the organization are to reduce waste and reduce deprivation. Working with its partners, the Food Bank is working to save more and more food from being thrown away and send it to the needy. (MTI)
