Czech breweries brewed 20.9 million hectoliters of beer last year
Last year, Czech breweries brewed 20.9 million hectoliters of beer, which is 4.2 percent more than in 2023, the Czech Breweries Association said in Prague on Wednesday.
According to the statement, last year’s results indicate that after several years of economic stagnation, Czech brewing is starting to revive.
The moderate growth is mainly due to exports and the increasing popularity of non-alcoholic beer. Per capita consumption of beer containing alcohol was 126 liters last year, two liters less than in 2023. Compared to 2019, the last year before the coronavirus pandemic, per capita beer consumption last year was 16 liters lower.
Breweries brewed 1.613 million hectoliters of non-alcoholic beers last year, 13.7 percent more than in 2023, and the increase compared to 2019 is more than 50 percent. This means that non-alcoholic beers already accounted for about 10 percent of all beer production last year, the Breweries Association points out.
“We see the popularity of non-alcoholic beers primarily due to the increasingly active lifestyle of Czechs,”
– Tomás Slunecko, the association’s executive director, told reporters. He noted that the range of these beers is becoming wider.
