Certified quality
Among Hungarian wholesalers Metro Kereskedelmi Kft. was the first to comply with the requirements of the 2.3 version of the IFS Logistics Standard. Our magazine asked Endre Péter Perendi, METRO’s head of quality assurance about the details
– What makes this set of standards new?
– IFS Logistics Standard is an internationally acclaimed system of regulations for the logistics section of the supply chain. Its latest version guarantees that higher level food safety and protection requirements are met than those of the HACCP system.
– Why did you choose a logistics standard?
– We think this is what reflects the quality of METRO’s delivery service to partners the best. This certification proves it to our partners that the products they get are the best from both quality and food safety perspectives.
– How many partners do you serve from your premises in Budakalász?
– The Budakalász platform is responsible for supplying more than 1,600 partners. Even our private label products come from certified manufacturers. The annual audit before renewing the IFS Logistics Standard makes sure that our system keeps developing.
– What does this mean to your partners?
– It means safety for our customers: they get their purchased products in the highest quality, with the right treatment. For METRO it was very important to be the first in Hungary to acquire this certification, as it can differentiate us from our competitors. The transparency of processes and the trust it generates create serious competitive advantage for us.
– How does the introduction of the IFS system fit into the development of the platform in Budakalász?
– We keep improving the technology background of our platform in Budakalász, for instance we now use Messer dry ice chilling technology in delivery and have installed a solar panel park on our premises. (x)
