Compared to last year, harvest began later in each wine region. In the case of the varieties affected by drought and spring frost, a 15-20 percent yield loss is expected – Légli Ottó, President of the National Council of Mountain Villages said.

There can be no complaint about the quality, the harvested grapes are healthy, so wehave the opportunity for an excellent vintage. Grape prices nationwide are slightly higher than last year, and purchase prices are still being negotiated in some red wine regions. At half of the harvest, the National Council of Mountain Villages estimates that the maximum yield will be around 350-360 thousand tonnes in 2020, which predicts the production of approximately 2.2-2.5 million hectoliters of wine. This volume is not only lower than last year’s 2.7 million hectoliters, but also to the preliminary estimate.
