The extreme weather may cause great damages to agriculture again this year
The effects of climate change also increase the sensitivity of the plants. In this context, only last year, Generali paid for nearly 1,500 agricultural damages: for example, the insurance company paid nearly 100 million forints to a farm in Baranya County after damages caused by the hail. Spring frosts also caused serious problems, especially for fruit growers.
According to NASA’s research, in February 2016, the global terrestrial average temperature was 1.35 °C higher than the average between 1951 and 1980. It is no coincidence that the annual report of the World Economic Forum on Global Risks also considers the biggest problem of the next ten years that we will not be able to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Agriculture is increasingly being exposed to extreme weather phenomena.
