Beer Association: producer turnover decreased by 7.5 percent in last year
Last year, the total turnover of the five largest domestic breweries (Borsodi, Dreher, Heineken, Carlsberg and Pécs) decreased by 7.5 percent to 6.177 million hectoliters, and domestic sales fell even more, by 9 percent, to 5.657 million hectoliters compared to the previous year – the director of the Association of Hungarian Brewers (MSSZ) told MTI.
Kántor Sándor explained the decrease with epidemiological measures affecting the HORECA sector (hotels, restaurants, cafes). The turnover of barrel beer in 2020 decreased by almost half from the previous year, the 297 thousand hectoliters sold accounted for 4.8 percent of the total turnover. In addition to the sale of keg beer, the turnover of beer sold in refillable bottles suffered the most, its sales fell by 26 percent to 965 thousand hectoliters. (MTI)
