Toshiba to produce lettuce
Toshiba, the Japanese maker of laptops and TVs, has a new project — growing lettuce with no soil and in the cleanest of clean rooms.
Because the lettuce can be grown without any soil and in rooms that are completely clean, the lettuce will never need washing. The company has control over the temperature and lighting in the room, as well as being able to keep it completely clean.
Toshiba’s Yokosuka factory is expected to produce 8,400 heads of lettuce every day when it reaches full capacity, but from the outside you might mistake it as another one of those data centers that keep popping up. (index)
