Germany’s Kaufland Launches Insect Burgers
German retailer Kaufland has added burgers that contain buffalo worms to its assortment.
The burger patties are produced by the company Bold Foods and contain protein powder from buffalo worms as well as being comprised of one-third vegetables.
The insect burger is protein-rich and a sustainable alternative to beef burgers, because the worms consume little water and emit only small amounts of carbon dioxide.
Moreover, they provide nutrients like vitamin B, omega-3 fatty acids and roughage.
Younger German consumers in particular are looking for meat alternatives that grill well on the barbecue, Kaufland said. (ESM)
