Honey has become so expensive that no one needs it
Domestic honey purchases have frozen, meanwhile the Ukrainians are flooding the Hungarian and European markets with cheap honey. It is conceivable that the purchase price of honey will soon begin to decrease because of this.
Just like grain, honey is being pushed out of our traditional markets by products coming from Ukraine at depressed prices – the Ministry of Agriculture pointed out, reminding that Hungary, together with several other member states, urges a clear indication of origin on the packaging of honey products. In Europe, extremely cheap honey products from third countries flooded the market, displacing Hungarian honey.
“After November, purchases practically stopped on the domestic honey market, Ukrainian honey brought down the price level of both mixed and acacia honey. At the end of 2021, acacia honey with a purchase price of HUF 2,400 per kilo will not be needed now at HUF 1,700, and there are also lots of mixed honeys stuck at producers and traders, and in addition, Hungarian honey is not running out of store shelves”
Gyula Fazekas, president of the Association of Hungarian Honey Traders and Honey Packers, told VG.hu.
