Auchan boosting number of its hyper markets outside Budapest
According to Katalin Gillemot, communications director of Auchan Magyarország Kft., they succeeded in meeting sales targets in 2008 and also in increasing the number of shoppers. Average basket value dropped somewhat in 2008, but this was offset by an increase in the number of shoppers. The Auchan hyper market in Miskolc was opened last November. At present, Auchan has 11 hyper markets, of which 3 are located outside Budapest (Székesfehérvár, Kecskemét, Miskolc) 8 of their stores also operate discount petrol stations. All of their hyper markets have a floor space of between 10,000-20,000 square meters. The Auchan policy has always been to stock the widest possible assortment of Hungarian products. Auchan is also planning to introduce private labels in some markets. In 2009, Auchan will continue to focus on offering an assortment which can satisfy the needs of every household.
