Hard times for the U.S. shopping centers
The shopping centers once were the centers of retail shopping, now they became the memorials of the “ancient” consumer habits. They already had some problems previously, but these days the Internet takes away more customers than ever.
While the retailers slowly reovers from the most severe economic downturn, since the the appearance of shopping centers, many of them realize that they expanded beyond their opportunities and quickly close their shops.
The result is an extraordinary increase of free spaces in shopping centers. Most of the cities – due to the decrease of their budgets – can not afford to support the ailing shopping centers.
Since 2006 no indoor malls were opened in the United States, and many ambitious plans, such as the construction of the New Jersey Xanadu-center was interrupted. (MTI-Press )
