Food prices increased in China
The Chinese consumer price index (CPI) increased slightly in August proper to the analysts’ expectations. On an annual comparision, consumer prices increased to 2 percent from the previous month's 1.8 percent – the national statistics office announced.
Compared to July, consumer prices increased by an average 0.6 percent, while analysts expected 0.5 percent. This increase was largely due to the increase in food prices: food prices increased by 3.4 percent compared to last August, while food prices increased by only 2.4 percent in July, compared to July 2011.
