One in five Mastercard countries is approaching the pre-pandemic domestic flight number
The recovery in travel remains uneven globally, with domestic airline bookings already reaching 90 percent of pre-pandemic levels in one-fifth of countries surveyed, according to a recent study sent to MTI by the Mastercard Economics Institute.
Research shows that while some countries, including the United States, Australia and France, have exceeded pre-pandemic domestic bookings, others, such as Canada, Thailand and New Zealand, have achieved only a fraction of pre-pandemic levels.
Globally, business travel is about four months behind leisure travel. Business travel is showing signs of recovery, with Australian domestic business travel bookings reaching nearly 80 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.
