Only two weeks left: thousands of Santas are running in downtown Budapest this year
The Santa Run season has begun, and after major cities around the world, such as Tokyo, Liverpool, Stockholm, Las Vegas, or even the Swiss capital, the red costumed running race will arrive in Budapest in two weeks. The 9th PENNY Santa Run will be held on December 8th, where participants can start and finish in guaranteed snowfall, regardless of the weather. Thousands of runners are expected, and the number of registered participants has almost doubled compared to the previous year.
The Santa Run, a sporting event with a special atmosphere during the Advent season, started in the Baltics almost 50 years ago and has since conquered almost the entire world. This year, dozens of joint, costumed runs will be organized, most of which also serve a charitable purpose.
Fortunately, Budapest cannot be left out either, the 9th PENNY Santa Claus Run will be one of the most spectacular events in the capital during the festive period leading up to Christmas.
The Budapest race will be held on December 8th, and one of its special features is that the organizers will give Santa Claus costumes to all participants. The thousands of runners, dressed from head to toe in red, will start from Fővám Square and return there. All of this will be guaranteed to be snowing, as, similarly to previous years, the Budapest Sports Office will also enhance the winter atmosphere with artificial snow drifts.
-We have already organized hundreds of races, but the Santa Claus Run holds a special place in my and my hearts every year. It has a unique atmosphere, as thousands of Santas run through downtown Budapest. It is an experience that everyone should experience and try. We also select the distances so that even hobby runners or even families with small children can complete them
– said Árpád Kocsis, managing director of the organizer Budapest Sports Office.
There are three distances to choose from: the most persistent Santas can start at 5 km, the slightly more comfortable ones at 2.3 km, and families with small children can start at 1 km. The interest in the latter is already so great that they are starting two 1000-meter races instead of the previously planned one.
