Magazine: The barbecue season is about to start – there are unanswered questions, though
Although sales are growing in the grill product market year after year, major manufacturers are missing from the Hungarian market, while others have decided to narrow the selection of products they offer. The reason behind this is that private label products have dominated the market so far. To make the situation worse from a grill product manufacturer’s perspective, this year pork has become cheaper thanks to the VAT cut.
Péter Fábián, brand manager with Kaiser Food Kft. told our magazine that they are optimistic, because their products have special characteristics, which make them irreplaceable and because the market isn’t saturated yet. Consumer feedback revealed that the keys to Kaiser Food products’ success are top quality and an exceptional price-value ratio. Since their grill sausages are small (190g), at a barbecue everyone can find the flavour they like from the five-sausage portfolio. Consumers like the mustard and the piquant versions the best.
Last year grill product sales by Wiesbauer-Dunahús were up more than 45 percent. Head of sales Zsolt Kazai told our magazine that consumer favourites are the paprika, cheese and garlic grill sausages. Last year’s new product, the mustard grill sausage was also tested by many consumers. Sales improved in hyper- and supermarkets and discount stores. This year the company comes out with the Wiesbauer Gourmet product range: the premium segment of grill sausages with special-flavour (lemon-chilli and olives-cheese-jalapeno) 250g sausages in sheep casing.
