KSH: industrial production fell by 4.1 percent in March

In March, the volume of industrial production was 4.1 percent lower than a year earlier. Adjusted for the working day effect, production decreased by 4.0 percent – the Central Statistics Office (KSH) confirmed in its second estimate on Friday.

A decrease was measured in most of the manufacturing industry sub-sectors, but at the same time, the volume of production increased significantly in the production of the heaviest vehicles and the production of electrical equipment.

Based on seasonally and working day-adjusted data, industrial output was 0.2 percent higher than in February 2023.
The volume of industrial exports was 0.4 percent higher than a year earlier. Exports of vehicle production, representing 32 percent of manufacturing export sales, increased by 31 percent, and electrical equipment production, which accounted for 14 percent, increased by 23 percent.

The domestic sales of industry fell by 17.0 percent, and that of the manufacturing industry by 13.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.

The production of the manufacturing industry, which represents a decisive weight within the industry (96 percent), decreased by 2.9 percent, that of the minor mining industry by 23 percent, and that of the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam supply, air conditioning) by 25 percent.

Vehicle production, the largest of the sub-sectors, representing 26 percent of manufacturing production, expanded by 23.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. The production of road vehicles increased by 27 percent, and the production of road vehicle components by 21 percent.

The production of electrical equipment, which accounted for 11 percent of the manufacturing industry, exceeded the previous year by 23 percent. Among the two most important sub-sectors, the production of batteries and dry cells increased by 39 percent, and that of electric motors, power generators, distribution and control devices by 12.9 percent.
