Winners of the 10th Art.Award. announced

For the tenth time, Henkel Central Eastern Europe (CEE) bestowed the Henkel Art.Award. for Central and Eastern Europe, featuring a monetary prize of 7,000 euros and two individual exhibitions – thus comprising a total value of 35,000 euros. The prize was given to the Russian artist David Ter-Oganyan. The promotional prize for Austrian artists, the Henkel Young Artists Prize Austria, was given to the Styrian-born artist Stefan Glettler.

“On the basis of this competition and art prize, Henkel aims to make a contribution to European integration and the cultural understanding of the Central Eastern Europe region. We are delighted and are very proud that the prize has gained such a reputation. In these 10 years 4,500 artists from more than 20 Central and Eastern European countries have submitted more than 25,000 works of art“, says Günter Thumser, President of Henkel CEE, on the occasion of the gala award ceremony held at the Imperial Stables of the museum of modern art stiftung ludwig vienna (mumok) in Vienna.

This year precisely 870 works of art created by young artists were evaluated. An international jury of experts consisting of museum specialists, art experts, prominent curators and gallery owners decided on the artist David Ter-Oganyan born in 1981 in Rostov-on-Don (Russia) as the award winner.

The Henkel Art.Award is given in cooperation with mumok und KulturKontakt Austria. “I very highly value the extraordinary commitment of Henkel to promote young artistic positions from Eastern Europe and am pleased to be able to bestow this award at mumok”, says Karola Kraus, spokesperson for the jury and director of the mumok, speaking at the award ceremony.

The Henkel Young Artists Prize Austria designed to promote young Austrian artists, featuring a monetary prize of 2,000 euros, was also granted for the sixth time at the Henkel Art.Award. gala. This year the prize went to Stefan Glettler. The 30-year-old artist from Styria impressed the jury with the high quality of his art works in various disciplines – painting, drawing and sculpture.

“Thus we not only want to support the numerous young talents in the fine arts in Eastern Europe but also in Austria“, explains Henkel CEE President Thumser, expressing his pleasure with the commitment of Austria’s up-and-coming artists.
