The best Hungarian steakhouse made it to the American World Cup
Steak roasting is an even less well-known “sport” here, even though these competitions not only have a serious domestic tradition, but also have internationally recognized Hungarian representatives. The most recent international competition was held in Dunaharaszti on Saturday, September 14. VIII. organized by the Smoky Rabbit Association. At the Füstös Núl Cup and BBQ Festival, the competitors measured their skills in three categories.
In addition to the classic steak, of which two parallel items had to be submitted, in the “Just the meat” category the task was to make a BBQ beef side, and in the creative category the task was to make a hamburger, while the youngest could prove themselves by making a hot dog.
The event itself was at least as much a festival as a strictly judged competition. The location, A Trezor, which is well-known to fans of American vintage cars, already offers many attractions, but in addition concerts, chef and ingredient demonstrations, master classes and, of course, high-quality gastronomy awaited the participants and the approximately 600 visitors who bought tickets despite the cool, gloomy weather. to the event.
“The Smoky Rabbit Cup is one of, if not the most, organized European competition. Accordingly, it has a high level of prestige and appeal, so competitors from not only Hungary, but also from, for example, Italy, Germany and other European countries are present, and the judges are also international. The genre itself, originally called the Steak Cookoff Association, is an American initiative that is spreading explosively around the world. In 2022, there will already be 500 points-scoring, official competitions held in America, and a total of more than 100 in the rest of the world”
