Double-digit sales increase at Hofer
Aldi’s Austrian branch had EUR3.3 billion in turnover last year, this year company plans to expand the chain (421 units) with additional 20 stores in Austria.
As known discounters have the benefit
of the recession as shoppers try to save money on groceries. Hofer
General Director Johann Mörwald said: "We will probably
have a variety of additional customers this year." He added last
year had been "very successful", with turnover rising in
the double-digits.
Discount retailer Aldi has stated that
its total sales in the UK and Ireland have grown by +24.8% for the
year ended 31 December, with total revenue for the period reaching
EUR2.4 billion.
