Crumbling shopping baskets are a typical element of pre-Christmas preparations. Everyone is trying to stock up before the winter break to fill the holiday table with sweet and savory delicacies. Quality ingredients such as butter, eggs, meats, hot dogs or mayonnaise are essential for excellent results. However, if we want the food to remain edible for a long time, some basic hygiene rules must be followed both during transportation and storage at home. Do you know how to ensure the freshness of Christmas dishes?

Butter

Butter is the best choice for cookie dough, creams, or simply for spreading Christmas cake or kuglóf. Households use a lot of it around this time every year. Quality butter contains at least 80 percent fat. This can also be determined by the fact that when it is taken out of the cold, it takes a few minutes for it to soften to be spreadable. The butter should be stored in the refrigerator, where it will last for about two months. If we have obtained a larger quantity than we will consume in this time, we can also put the wrapped blocks in the freezer, so they can be stored for up to a year. It may seem boring to wait for the butter to soften, but it is not a good idea to leave it on the kitchen counter for a long time, because at room temperature it can be consumed for up to two days.

Egg

Most people keep their eggs in the fridge and there is nothing wrong with that. At least as good a solution, however, is a cool chamber with a maximum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius.

“Eggs usually stay fresh enough for four weeks. However, frequent temperature changes harm their shelf life. Therefore, they must be kept under constant conditions during the entire logistics – transport and storage – process, with particular regard to transshipments. And when you get home and put them in the refrigerator, it is not advisable to put them on the shelves on the door, because there they are often exposed to warmer air.”
