Sheep Product Council: this year’s Easter lamb exports are expected to be lower than last year
Compared to the average of 100-120 thousand Easter lambs, this year about 10 thousand less is expected to be exported to Italy, while the available price will also decrease – Bátor Árpád, president of the Sheep Product Council told MTI on Monday, adding that it is extremely unfavorable for the Hungarian Sheep breeeders, because 85-90 percent of Hungary’s lamb export goes to the Italian market.
Last year, a 20-24 kilogram Easter roast lamb’s price was approximately 3.2 euros per kilogram, while this year, because of the decline in demand, the prices fell to an average of 2.5-2.7 euros.
Bátor Árpád informed that the breeders want to help the Italian sales problems that they will transport to other countries. (MTI)
