Domestic tomato production area increased sevenfold
The domestic industrial tomato growing area increased almost sevenfold in recent years – magyaridok.hu wrote. In the early 2010s the sector was at the edge of extinction. Now tomato has a secure market, as the total quantity is bought by domestic processing plants.
The nadir was in 2012, when the vegetable farmers produced tomatoes on only 210 hectares, the cultivation area reached 1400 hectares in 2015.
This year, the farmers are expecting a good harvest. If unexpected event will not happen, 125-130 thousand tons of eating tomatoes to be harvested. 95 percent of it will be sold domestically. (Köpöncei Csilla, Magyar Idők)
