Hungary may soon become an even stronger gastronomic destination
This year, for the first time, the MICHELIN Guide publishes a list of restaurants for the whole of Hungary (National Selection of Hungary). As a result, the entire country’s culinary offerings will be put on the international map, which represents another milestone in the development of domestic tourism and gastronomy.
In addition to restaurants in Budapest, the world-renowned publication, which also rates restaurants in the countryside, can contribute to the increase in traffic of catering establishments in the short term, and in the longer term it can increase the competitiveness of the sector. Nevertheless, the selection can focus attention on the rural areas as well, thereby on the gastronomic and touristic diversity of Hungary.
The French restaurant guide goes back more than a hundred years, since its existence in more than 40 countries around the world, it has evaluated around 30,000 establishments, with a focus on outstanding quality. It is also due to this that to this day it is considered the most prestigious gastronomic award.
MICHELIN already announced in April 2022 that it will extend its survey to the whole of Hungary, and this year it will publish a national selection for the first time. The identity of the inspectors of the world’s most prestigious gastronomic guide is unknown, and they have returned to the country several times in the past year to look for the best restaurants, according to a uniform methodology that goes back to long traditions.
