Hungary’s fish consumption is lagging behind the EU
The per capita consumption of fish in Hungary is the lowest in the EU – 444.hu wrote. In fact, Hungary only precceedes such countries as Mongolia, Nepal and Ethiopia.
Even in the neighboring, poorer Romania more fish is consumed, although there is a sea, but Czechs and Slovaks who have no sea also eat almost twice as many fish as we do.
The trend, however, is not so tragic. Compared with 1990, Hungarians consume nearly 40 percent more fish, 3.7 kilograms per year, which is still very low, but in the last 25 years, the consumption of eggs fell by nearly half, and we eat one-fifth less meat, so the increase of fish consumption is not so bad.
