FruitVeB: Hungarian apple production is in a bad situation
The Hungarian apple production is in a bad situation, for example, there is a large annual fluctuation in yields, the proportion of industrial apples is large within the whole crop, and the proportion of plantations that can be considered as modern is low in addition to the decreasing growing area, according to the Hungarian Vegetable Fruit Intermediary Organization and Product Council (FruitVeB).
According to the information, Hungary’s apple production is 550-600 thousand tons in an average year, but fluctuated between 200 and 920 tons in the last 10-15 years. This is why crop safety is very bad, which is one of the basic obstacles to building and maintaining markets. In addition, the utilization rate of Hungarian nutrition quality apple is weak. (MTI)
