The plum harvest may be slightly better than mediocre this year, with growers harvesting about 60-65,000 tonnes from 6,600 hectares. Last year 65-70,000 tonnes were harvested – the vice president of FruitVeB Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organization and Product Council told MTI.

Apáti Ferenc pointed out that the differences between the varieties and the growing regions are significant this year due to the weather conditions: the crop was not favored by the extremely droughty and frosty spring, and then the cool, rainy May, which resulted in severe fruit loss in June. The June storm and ice damage caused further – mainly quality – damage to the crop. (MTI)
