Repositioned fast food restaurant
As part of a gradual image makeover by McDonald’s in Europe, Hungarian franchise partners of the company have also been rebuilding and redesigning more often recently. They can choose from several interior design concepts offered by McDonald’s European Design Studio. McDonald’s provides financial contribution as well. This summer, the Szombathely unit was redesigned after 13 years. According to franchise partner Zoltán Kozma, a progressive, modern, but not high-tech interior was their objective, something more than the classic McDonald’s feeling. Instead of the 4-5 percent sales growth, they realised a 10-15 percent increase after the refurbishment that also created 16 extra seats. More space for customers and two special tables for bigger groups have also contributed to this success. A self-service drinks counter was built, a plasma television and the Internet terminal also make consumption more comfortable.

Various prospects for the future
Starbucks has made attempts at launching a new type of café. The first unit opened in Seattle this July, under the brand name ”15th Avenue Coffee and Tea” and is positioned as the café next door.

At the end of August, Kentucky Fried Chicken came out in a few US states with Double Down: a sandwich with fried bacon, two types of cheese and a sauce between two roasted chicken breasts. KFC’s spokesperson said that Double Down’s calorie level was 600 kcal, but other sources claimed it was above 1,200 kcal. Anyway, this sandwich is guaranteed to be substantial!
