World Earth Day – How to get your child to collect aluminum selectively?
Recycling aluminum cans is just one small, but very important step towards environmental awareness and saving resources. If we act wisely as parents, it will become completely natural for the children – and not only today, on World Earth Day.
If we actively strive for a more sustainable life, we basically have the intention to leave behind a livable planet for the generations that follow us, our children and grandchildren. This everyday environmental awareness consists of many, many small steps: starting with saving water, not buying unnecessary things, and ending with not throwing aluminum cans in the trash. Many of these can also be implemented for children, for example the latter.
It’s up to us
Today, many soft drinks, tea or even milk drinks can be bought in aluminum cans, which children also consume not only at home, but also at school, training, and camp. Aluminum is a huge asset and does not belong in the trash. Just as you don’t throw away a piece of clothing after just one wear, neither should an aluminum box. For this to become natural for the children, it largely depends on the example set by the parents. Today, nothing is easier than collecting the sub-boxes separately and then returning them together – the vending machines installed as part of the Every Box Returns program make this easier.
Let’s arouse interest!
As parents, make sure to explain why this is so important in accordance with the child’s age: if he is still at a receptive age, we can surely impress him with some exciting information. For example, does our seedling know that a column so high that it would reach the moon and back 75 times could be built from sub-boxes made in one year? Would he be surprised if we told him that the box he’s holding was probably already there a few weeks ago? A good example, communication is the key to making environmentally conscious behavior become natural for children.
It is also important in school
Of course, it’s best if the little ones don’t just encounter all of this at home: it’s possible to collect the boxes even at school or during training. If a department collects the boxes together and then returns the boxes, the money received can even be donated to charity – thanks to the cooperation between Minden Doboz Visszajár and the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service, as well as SPAR Hungary, some vending machines allow this as well. With this, they did not only one useful and good thing, but two at once! Not only as parents, but also as educators and coaches, we have the opportunity to guide children along the sometimes bumpy path of everyday environmental awareness – ultimately, they are the custodians of the future.
