Focus on the promotion of Hungarian food exports in Slovenia
The capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, is home to the latest business development station of the Hungarian Food Business Program, established by the Agricultural Marketing Center (AMC), which helps Hungarian food producers enter the export market. Our country was represented at the event by the State Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture.
In his welcoming speech, Zsolt Feldman emphasized that Hungary’s goal is to strengthen agriculture and the food industry in order to successfully participate in the international market. He highlighted that the Hungarian food industry now sells 43-45 percent of its processed products on export markets. The figures are also encouraging considering the foreign trade data of agri-food products over the past decade and a half. Hungarian agricultural exports increased by 129 percent between 2010 and 2023, and the foreign trade surplus by 65 percent. It is of key importance that the proportion of processed products within the export structure also increased significantly, from 62 percent to 74 percent.
This positive process was also supported by the approximately 800 billion forints allocated to food industry developments from EU and domestic sources over the past decade. The growth of the commodity base and the further improvement of domestic production efficiency are being strengthened by the new wave of development to be implemented in the coming years. Hungarian food industry companies see a perspective in their activities, as more than 760 billion forints of support requests were received in response to the latest food industry call for tenders announced under the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy from the European Union co-financing – emphasized Zsolt Feldman.
According to the State Secretary, Hungarian agricultural products are competitive in both price and quality, but in the strong international competition it is not enough to be good and produce a good product, but it is also necessary to develop the existing sales channels and find new ones.
