FM: apple consumption should be encouraged because of the good harvest
Much more than usual apples have grown in the country this year, so public consumption should be encouraged – Nagy István, Minister of State of the Ministry of Agriculture (FM), told at a CBA shop on Wednesday in the 8th district of Budapest. The supermarket chain has launched a campaign to promote Hungarian apple.
Nagy István said that 780 to 800 thousand tons of apples have grown in the country, which is 40 percent more than usual. Therefore it is necessary to encourage domestic consumption, and the target purchasing by the Hungarian National Trading House Ltd. – he added.
The politician noted that the Hungarian population’s apple consumption was previously around 30 kilogrammes per person per year, but for now it has dropped to 15 kilogrammes. (MTI)
