Growing importance of the horeca sector

Imre Horváth, the CEO of METRO Hungary talked to our magazine about the role of the horeca sector in the company’s business strategy. He told that they differentiate five big segments in the Horeca sector, which they serve with targeted offers (in terms of products, prices, services and even sales teams). Today 35-40 percent of METRO Hungary’s turnover is realised by Horeca customers, but the company would like to increase this share to 50 percent. Sales teams are working hard on this: they are in touch with 10,000 Horeca units on a daily basis. METRO is one of Bocuse d’Or’s main sponsors in Hungary. In the last two years the company also made extra efforts to satisfy all the demands of top restaurants’ procurers – so that they don’t have to travel to Vienna for quality ingredients. Those who work in METRO stores often spend time in kitchens of these restaurants, trying to find out how the wholesaler can serve their needs even better. The company’s Gastro Academy is an educational centre specialising in the training of professional chefs, where programmes are going with full house practically all the time. Finally Mr Horváth told that he travelled to Lyon to root for Gábor Molnár and his team in person at the Bocuse d’Or final. (x)
