Plus in value, minus in volume
Retail sales of cheese were up 7 percent as regards value in March 2010-February 2011. In the same period volume sales dropped 1 percent on the HUF 70-billion market – reported the Nielsen Retail Index. Private label cheese sales climbed 2 percentage points to reach a 28-percent share. Stores larger than 400m² are responsible for 77 percent of cheese sales. Semi-hard cheese varieties were the strongest in volume sales but they lost 4 percentage points in the examined period. Runner-up was the round box cheese segment with a stable 10 percent of the market.
