Lidl’s first mobile store in Hungary will open on October 17th
Lidl Hungary is launching its first mobile store, with which it aims to reach settlements where it does not have a traditional store. The aim of the project is to ensure that residents of smaller villages also receive the usual Lidl quality and prices – “You can shop at Lidl prices even where there is no Lidl” – said Zita Szlavikovics, the company’s chairman of the board.
The specially modified minibus will visit 48 settlements in the fall of 2025, reaching a total of about 28 thousand people. The vehicle offers more than 80 types of products, including vegetables, fruit, chilled and frozen goods, canned goods, dry goods and cleaning products – at the same price as in any Lidl store in the country.
The bus is accompanied by a truck, allowing for refilling according to customer needs in the two settlements it visits daily.
The project took about 6 months to implement. At least three employees work in the mobile store every day, and more than 70 Lidl employees are involved in the project. According to Zita Szlavikovics, based on customer feedback, the program is expected to be expanded, possibly as early as next spring. Lidl is waiting for applications from small towns on its website.
The initiative is currently unique in Lidl’s international network – a similar mobile store currently only operates in Hungary.
