Amazon.com, the internet retailer known for its massive book sales, has begun delivering fresh foods directly to consumers' doorsteps.

 The
experimental marketing program is initially limited to Mercer Island in the US.
Amazon Fresh is a continuation of the gourmet food business
the company started in 2003 and the dry grocery service begun last summer.
 Amazon Fresh would
offer items found in a local grocery store, including organic and non-organic
fruits and vegetables, dairy products, ice cream, meat, fish, health and
personal care items, cereal, chips and soda. The program lets customers order
online and then have the products delivered the next day during a one-hour time
slot of their choosing.
