The Government of Hungary is committed to adapting domestic agriculture to the technological and sustainability challenges of the 21st century, stated Zsolt Feldman, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture responsible for agriculture and rural development, at the CLIMMAR congress in Budapest.

Zsolt Feldman stated at the event of the European Agricultural Machinery Distributors Association that there is a close professional partnership between the organizer MEGFOSZ (National Association of Agricultural Equipment and Machinery Distributors) and the government, since European and domestic agriculture can only become stronger if the government, farmers and the industrial-service background of agriculture can think and cooperate together. MEGFOSZ also conducts exemplary activities in the field of education in our country, as it promotes the profession of agricultural mechanist through the ‘Become an agricultural mechanist!’ program for young people and increases the prestige of the profession in the difficult labor market conditions – continued the state secretary.

Zsolt Feldman added that, from a professional point of view, a high level of machine services related to agriculture, as well as machine distribution, is very necessary for the success of agriculture.

In the new agricultural support cycle starting in 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture places a strong emphasis on technological renewal and digitalization – continuing the large-scale agricultural and food industry investment program launched in 2021, thanks to which the domestic agricultural machinery market has undergone continuous and dynamic development in recent years. Despite all the difficulties affecting European and domestic agriculture, Hungarian farmers bought 800 million euros worth of new agricultural machinery and equipment in 2021. This trend did not decrease this year either, as in the first half of 2022 sales exceeded 400 million euros. In his speech, the state secretary drew attention to the fact that the program launched to encourage the transition to precision farming is a major milestone in the life of domestic agriculture from both an environmental and economic point of view. He highlighted: in order to maintain competitiveness, food security and environmental sustainability, digitization, appropriate mechanization, the most modern power and work machines, and the use of tools suitable for precision farming can be considered basic requirements.

Zsolt Feldman identified the issue of European food supply security and food sovereignty as extremely important. The goal is that the energy crisis affecting the European economy and the supply and sales chains that have been interrupted in the past period, as well as the resulting uncertainty, will be resolved as soon as possible for agricultural producers.
