The SZÉP card will be digitized
According to the ninth point of the New Economic Policy Action Plan, which consists of 21 measures, the government will allow 50 percent of the benefits received on the Széchenyi Holiday Card (SZÉP card) to be used for housing purposes in 2025. With this measure, the government is supporting affordable housing with a new tool, which is one of the pillars of the action plan, the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) explained in a statement sent to MTI on Tuesday.
They added that in addition, the SZÉP card will be digitized to make it easier to use, and in order to support an active lifestyle, a new pocket will be opened on the SZÉP card called Active Hungarians.
The amount of fringe benefits payable via the card will thus increase by 10,000 forints per month. The social consultation of the relevant legislative amendments will begin on Tuesday.
One of the key goals of the New Economic Policy Action Plan, which consists of 21 measures, is to ensure affordable housing, which the government supports with measures such as the Rural Home Renovation Program, ensuring the use of voluntary pension fund savings for housing purposes, or maintaining the 5 percent preferential VAT on the sale of new residential properties, they wrote.
According to the ninth point of the action plan, the government has decided on another measure: in order to improve the housing conditions of families, in 2025, 50 percent of the benefits received on the SZÉP card can be used for home renovation.
Their fringe benefits will also make it possible to purchase hardware, building materials, paint, glass, furniture, and lighting equipment, among other things.
According to the ministry, the SZÉP card has already played a decisive role in the financial tools of Hungarian families, supporting their carefree vacation, while also strengthening the domestic tourism and hospitality industry through increased demand and expanded consumption.
