The grape growers count on sugar help
The National Council of Wine Communities initiated that Hungary should ask the European Commission that the domestic wine producers to increase the natural alcohol content of their wines.
In other words, instead of the allowed 1.5 volume percent, they can the natural alcohol content of their wines with an additional 0.5 volume percent sugar this year. The two percent increase is explained with the extreme weather situation. Experiences have shown, that the producers can harvest the grapes with a too low, 14-15 degrees must reap, so without the amendment they would not be able to reach the 9 percent alcohol content.
