Sugar with bio-gas
Magyar Cukor Zrt., has produced 150 thousand tons of sugar since December. Almost one million tons of sugar beet from more than 19 thousand hectares was used to produce this quantity. The company with revenues of HUF 27 billion last year, is focusing on the reduction of energy costs. They installed an experimental bio-gas production system in their Kaposvár plant in October, which has been operating successfully since then. This is the first attempt in Hungary to use bye products from sugar production to produce energy. A full-scale bio-gas plant may be built this year with an investment of HUF one billion, which could supply 50 per cent of the gas used in sugar production.
