Miracle fruit
This cherry-sized fruit was not named so because of its physiological effects, but because it can play a trick on our senses. Recently at a New York show, guests have had to chew the fruit for a minute and afterwards beer tasted like chocolate and lemon was like sugar for them. A protein named miraculin in this Western African fruit (Synsepalum dulcificum) disturbs the taste buds. Miracle fruit is also a low-calorie sweetener that completely lacks artificial additives.
