BS Plastic: Leaders in sustainability
Sustainability has become part of our everyday life. According to data from Plastics Europe, 25.8 million tons of plastic waste is produced in Europe per year, from which less than 30 percent is collected for recycling.
100-percent Hungarian-owned company BS Plastic employs more than 130 people and has an annual production capacity of 6,000 tons. They are the Hungarian market leaders, and the company also plays a leading role in developing BioDegradable packaging solutions.

BS Plastic
Our magazine interviewed sales manager Izabella Bauer, who told that they make PE- and HDPE-based stretch wraps, bags and flexible packaging materials for industrial partners. Since 2013 they have also been manufacturing organic material-based bags. Since 2012 the company’s operations have been ISO 14001:2005 certified and they recycle 98 percent of primary production waste.
She told: BioDegradable packaging means that the packaging decomposes in 100 percent by the end of the 58th day instead of the minimum deadline of 60 days; these products are made from biopolymers and biodegradable polymers. The guarantee for full degradation is that BS Plastic’s operations are governed by the MSZ EN 13432-2002 European Union standard. The company is also BRC-certified and has been granted the TÜV Austria OK Compost INDUSTRIAL and HOME certifications.
What kind of sustainable packaging solutions does BS Plastic offer to partners? Their BioDegradable packaging solutions as primary packaging – bags, and as secondary packaging – shopping and tote bags. The company also makes bin liners for home use. BS Plastic also provides full-scale packaging consultancy and technology support to partners. What are the advantages of BioDegradable packaging? They can reduce the burden on the environment and make consumers more conscious about green issues. Plus there is no product fee on bio products (the fee is currently HUF 1,900/kg for shopping bags).
