Improving position for ham in an expanding market
According to Nielsen, some growth was detectable in the retail trade of cooked/smoked meat. The combined market share of the three seasonal Easter product categories increased by half a per cent between November 2005 and October 2006 compared to the year before. The market of cooked ham exceeded HUF 20 billion. Average prices were diverse. Last year in September-October the average price was HUF 1 899 per kilo, which is 12 per cent more than a a year before. Smoked ham became cheaper with price going down from HUF 2 025 to 1 924. The average price of cooked and smoked ham grew from HUF 1 271 to HUF 1 313. In terms of value, cooked ham took a 12 per cent share from the overall retail sales of meat products, while smoked meat and cooked and smoked meat held 3-3 per cent respectively.
