Inflation returns to the European Union
A positive rate of inflation was registered in May both in the Euro Zone and in the European Union, after the previous month's zero percent.
The Eurostat reported on Wednesday that on a yearly basis consumer prices increased by 0.3 percent in May both in Euro Zone and in the European Union. In April, consumer prices had stopped falling, but in March, the harmonized (HICP) Consumer Price Index has declined by 0.1 percent.
However, in May, the price index has reduced further in eight member countries. The biggest fall in prices occured in Cyprus (-1.7 percent) and Greece (-1.4 percent), while the highest increase in consumer prices was measured in Romania and Malta (both 1.3 percent). (MTI)
