The EU would ban greenwashing and propose new consumer rights
According to a press release from the Brussels panel, the proposed rules would strengthen consumer protection against creditworthy or false environmental claims. They would ban “greenwashing”, ie the use of a marketing or PR strategy whereby a company presents itself as environmentally friendly, responsible for environmental protection, while this is not reflected in its operations, or such claims about its product or service cannot be substantiated.
