KTK: a government announcement on support for small town shops related to price caps is expected on Monday, the new price caps will come into effect from Thursday
The price freeze on eggs and table potatoes will come into effect on Thursday, the Government Information Center (KTK) told MTI on Wednesday evening.
They wrote: in order to protect Hungarian families and pensioners, the government is extending the price cap to new foods, eggs and table potatoes, thereby mitigating the effects of inflation and food price increases caused by the Brussels sanctions. The new price caps will come into effect from Thursday – the government decree on this will soon be published in the Magyar Közlöny.
This expands the range of food products subject to price freezes to the following: eggs, table potatoes, flour, sunflower oil, pork, chicken, 2.8 percent milk and granulated sugar. The price caps will be in effect until the end of the year, the government can decide on their possible extension in December, they added.
They indicated: the rise in food prices is caused by the fact that since the introduction of the sanctions, inflation has been rising throughout Europe, the price of energy is rising, along with feed, transport and other costs, and bird flu and a historic drought have also hit agriculture and the food industry.
